I closed my eyes, raised my arms, took a deep breath, and just paused.”  – Anam Hussain, Founder CFT Pakistan Magazine.

Maybe it’s the mountain air. Maybe it’s watching the wind running through the trees. But something entirely indescribable shifts inside you the moment you step into the highlands of Hussainabad in Skardu.

The image you are looking at was captured just outside my Brangsa, which is a traditional Balti stone cabin at BROQ Resorts.

Surrounded by towering, ancient rock formations, I caught sight of this massive boulder, textured with vibrant patches of fiery orange lichen. It felt less like a rock and more like a natural pedestal rising over the edge of the world.

I stared at it, picturing myself at the top. “Is it safe to climb?” I asked my guide. With a reassuring smile and a steady hand, he helped me up.

What awaited at the summit was pure magic. It was a panoramic theatre of the Karakoram’s jagged, snow-dusted peaks, the winding ribbon of the Indus River carving through the valley far below, and a lush canopy of green trees.

For years, the travel world looked to Swiss alpine retreats or Himalayan ashrams for restoration. But there is a raw, untamed therapy found only in the high-altitude silence of Baltistan. This is Pakistan as a wellness frontier, a place where the sheer grandeur of nature forces you to slow down, breathe, and heal.
